The Symbol of Unity and Peace
The Olympic flame, a universal symbol of peace, unity, and friendship among nations, will be carried by 10,000 torchbearers from various backgrounds, both renowned and unknown. After being ignited in the ancient sanctuary of Olympia in Greece, the flame will arrive in Marseilles on May 8, 2024, aboard a majestic three-masted ship. Its journey will conclude with the lighting of the cauldron at the Paris Olympic Games’ opening ceremony on July 26.
A Journey Through Paris
For its Parisian route, the City of Paris and the Paris 2024 committee have meticulously selected a mix of historical, cultural, popular, and sporting sites. The relay will traverse all districts, reflecting Paris’s multifaceted character. The flame will pass through sites of recent memory like the Bataclan, historical landmarks such as the Bastille and the National Assembly, and royal squares like Place de la Concorde and Place des Vosges.
A Celebration of Diversity
The relay route will also include popular neighborhoods such as Goutte d’Or and Belleville, transforming areas like Porte de la Chapelle, and the cycle lanes of Rue de Rivoli. It will visit places of worship such as Notre-Dame and the Grand Mosque of Paris, cultural centers like the Louvre and the Grand Rex, and natural spaces including Bois de Vincennes and Buttes Chaumont. Covering 31 kilometers on July 14 and 27.5 kilometers on July 15, the flame will rest at City Hall overnight before continuing its journey across France.
