Last night’s foster parent training event marked a meaningful moment during Clark County Foster Care Month. Hosted at the Clark County Government Center, the session brought together local families, experts, and advocates focused on one mission—supporting children in need.
Each May, National Foster Care Month, led by the Children’s Bureau, highlights the importance of stable, loving homes for youth in the system. In Clark County, that need is urgent.

Clark County Has Over 3,000 Kids in Care
On any given day, more than 3,000 children are in Clark County’s foster care system. Many arrive with siblings, forming family groups of two or more. These children span different ages and emotional needs.
Yet, nearly 58% of these sibling groups are separated. Placement into separate homes creates even more emotional strain for kids already dealing with trauma and uncertainty.

Progress Made, But 300 More Homes Still Needed
The community has responded. Over the past year, 100 new beds were added, and 83 families received licenses to foster two or more children. This helps keep siblings together. But the need remains high.
“We still need about 250 to 300 more foster homes,” said Frank Prado, Director of Clark County Family Services. “Every child deserves a family. Our foster and kinship caregivers make all the difference—they provide the stability, healing, and support these children need.”

Last Night’s Training Offered Tools and Hope
The training, led by Raise the Future, taught future foster parents how to care for children affected by abuse, neglect, or trauma. Attendees learned techniques rooted in compassion and consistency. The room was filled with people ready to change lives—one child at a time.
Participants heard from current foster parents, gaining real-world insight into what to expect and how to navigate the journey. It was a night of learning, listening, and deep commitment.
The Power of Community During Clark County Foster Care Month
The event proved that when a community comes together, real change happens. As Clark County Foster Care Month continues, the call for more families grows louder.
Foster parents aren’t just temporary caregivers. They are often the first step toward a child’s healing and future. Last night’s training reflected that truth and ignited hope in every seat Just Now News.
