Clark County Commission Chairman Tick Segerblom hosted a public town hall last night, June 30, at the Clark County Library. The event aimed to deliver a homeless encampments update for the Flamingo Road and Maryland Parkway area. It was open to all residents, business owners, and stakeholders in District E and focused on solutions for addressing growing safety concerns. Attendees appreciated the detailed homeless encampments update, which highlighted current challenges and ongoing efforts.

Neighborhood Impact and Encampment Displacement
Recent clean-up efforts along the wash and storm drain areas near Flamingo and Maryland successfully cleared multiple encampments. However, the effort caused a shift in activity, with some individuals relocating into nearby residential neighborhoods. A noteworthy part of the town hall was the update regarding homeless encampments. It provided insight into these transitions and their impact on local residents, who are now dealing with issues such as trespassing, vandalism, and property crime.
This meeting provided a platform for the public to express their concerns. They also received direct updates from county leadership and public agencies.

County Response and Multi-Agency Coordination
Commissioner Segerblom outlined the current multi-phase approach, part of a $15 million revitalization project. It includes physical improvements, public safety reinforcements, and outreach services. The homeless encampments update also covered coordination among representatives from LVMPD, UNLVPD, Clark County Fire Department, and HELP of Southern Nevada.
This is a brilliant way to conduct a town hall — having every department present makes a real impact. Meeting the citizens face-to-face and developing action plans around their concerns creates a direct and effective dialogue. It fosters accountability and builds public trust.
HELP of Southern Nevada confirmed that two individuals removed from the wash area have already been placed into housing. They are now employed. Progress may be gradual, but collaborative steps are being made in addressing homeless encampments.
Law Enforcement, Fire Presence, and Next Steps
A big shout-out to the police and fire personnel who were on-site. Their presence ensured public safety and dignity for all involved. Their role in this process cannot be overstated, as emphasized during the update regarding homeless encampments.
It was also reassuring to hear the Commissioner’s genuine concern for the citizens of District E. His commitment to listening and responding to the community was clear throughout the meeting.
The county will continue site visits with residents in problem areas to better understand needs in the days ahead. This will help shape responsive solutions related to homeless encampments.
