Exciting Progress and Developments in Dana Point Harbor’s Comprehensive Revitalization Project
Dana Point Harbor is undergoing a transformative revitalization, bringing new life to its marina, commercial core, and hotel infrastructure. Here’s a comprehensive update on the ongoing construction and what you can expect in the coming months and years.
Marina Updates
Phase 6 Progress and Slip Selection
The Marina at Dana Point is making significant strides in its construction efforts. According to the June Newsletter from The Marina at Dana Point, the demolition of Phase 6 is nearly complete. New docks are set to arrive in the next two weeks, and this phase includes 25’ slips, 30’ slips, and end-ties. Phase 6 is expected to be completed by late August, with the slip selection process beginning in early July.
Completion of Phase 5
Phase 5 in the west cove was completed and opened for occupancy on June 1, 2024. All slips in Phase 5 have been filled, including 120 new tenants from the 30’ waitlist.
Future Phases
Bellingham Marine will continue work on Phases 6, 7, and 8 on the west island through the first quarter of 2025. Once the west island is complete, the project will move to the east basin island for Phases 9 through 13, which will take approximately 1.5 years to complete by the end of 2026. The final two phases, 14 and 15, will focus on the east basin cove and are expected to be completed before the end of 2027.
Safety Notice
Please avoid the current Phase 6 water area as it is off-limits with a safety boom in place.

Phases 1 and 2 Construction
Formal construction for the harbor-wide revitalization began on March 1, 2024, with Phases 1 and 2 expected to be completed by Summer 2025. This includes the development of a three-tiered parking structure at the corner of Golden Lantern and Dana Point Harbor Drive. On July 11, 2024, the first section of the slab on grade was poured, covering approximately 28,000 square feet.
Underground Utility Infrastructure
Early July also saw the commencement of underground utility infrastructure work. Despite the construction, retail shops, restaurants, whale watching, sportfishing, and Catalina Express will remain open, with parking available in the main lot. The phased approach ensures minimal disruption to public access, parking, businesses, and common areas.
Phase 3 and Future Developments
Upon completing the first two phases, construction will begin on Phase 3 of the Commercial Core, focusing on waterfront development starting in March 2025. The final phases will see the redevelopment of buildings within The Wharf.
Hotels
New Hotel Approvals
On June 14, 2024, the California Coastal Commission unanimously approved the proposal for two new hotels as part of the Dana Point Harbor Revitalization. This approval comes after nearly four years of negotiations and includes a community benefits package investing over $6 million in Orange County service organizations over the project’s life. The next step is to seek final approvals from the City of Dana Point.
