The Eastside Rooms has confirmed its wellness room—originally launched for the 2025 ABPCO Festival of Learning—is now a permanent part of the venue. The initiative was designed as a quiet, inclusive space for event attendees needing a mental or sensory break. Based on powerful feedback from delegates, the venue immediately committed to making it a lasting feature. This highlights their dedication to Eastside Rooms wellness goals.
Neurodiversity insights led to action
The idea began after a session on neurodiversity at the ICCA UK & Ireland Chapter Conference. The Eastside Rooms expanded on those insights through its “Eventful Encounters” podcast. This podcast explored inclusive event design. These conversations led directly to the creation of a calming, tech-free environment inside the venue. It enhanced the Eastside Rooms wellness experience.
The space includes bean bags, coloring books, noise-cancelling headphones, and low music—all designed to gently engage the mind and offer peace. Devices like phones and laptops are not allowed. This creates a true sanctuary from digital overload.
DEI integration across the entire venue
The wellness room is just one part of a broader DEI mission. As a Disability Confident Employer, The Eastside Rooms supports inclusive hiring and collaborates with Halesowen College and Springboard. Over 200 individuals from underrepresented backgrounds have entered the hospitality industry through these initiatives. Each step is committed to enhancing Eastside Rooms wellness strategies.
The venue also created travel route video guides to help neurodivergent guests navigate their journey. These visual tools provide both clarity and comfort, proving that accessibility extends beyond physical structures.
Measurable growth from meaningful change
In 2024, The Eastside Rooms welcomed over 76,000 delegates and posted a 37.5% increase in association event turnover. Organisations such as the Women’s Engineering Society and the British Society for Intraoperative Neurophysiology now choose the venue. This is because of its clear commitment to inclusive design.
