Program offers affordable protection to prevent lost pets from entering shelters
Clark County is launching a new $5 microchip program to help families protect their pets ahead of an upcoming law. Starting August 4, all pets in unincorporated Clark County must be microchipped. This effort makes it easy and affordable for owners to comply without delay.
The County allocated $150,000 to this program and secured 10,000 microchips. Three trusted animal welfare groups will now begin offering low-cost microchipping appointments across the valley. By acting now, families can avoid future penalties and reduce shelter crowding.
Hearts Alive, Nevada SPCA, and Heaven Can Wait lead the clinics
To deliver services quickly and locally, the County partnered with Hearts Alive Village, Nevada SPCA, and Heaven Can Wait Animal Society. Each organization will host microchip clinics, giving residents easy access to this essential service for just five dollars.
Appointments begin in July, with some already available through each group’s website. Clinics will run weekly or monthly, depending on demand, and more dates may be added leading up to the deadline. Pet owners are strongly encouraged to reserve a spot now.

Microchips help families avoid heartbreak and reduce shelter stays
A microchip gives your pet a permanent ID. Unlike a collar, it can’t fall off or fade. If your pet ever gets lost, shelters and veterinarians can scan the chip and contact you immediately. This fast-tracks reunion and avoids the stress and cost of shelter intake.
Most pets that end up in shelters are never reclaimed. Microchips change that outcome. They are a proven way to bring pets home fast. Families avoid paperwork, delays, and unnecessary fees when pets are chipped and their contact info is current.
Check and update your pet’s registration now
Many pets already have microchips. But if the contact details linked to that chip are wrong, it won’t help. Owners should take five minutes to check their registration and make updates if needed.
Incorrect or missing info leads to long delays and can even stop reunification altogether. Don’t wait until your pet is lost. Make sure the chip works before it matters most.
County urges action before enforcement begins
This isn’t just about compliance—it’s about keeping families together. Clark County made the program affordable and local, so every owner has a fair chance to follow the new rule. For just $5, you can protect your pet and avoid risk.
Don’t wait until August. Book your appointment now and update your contact info today. Visit http://www.clarkcountynv.gov/microchip to find a clinic near you and sign up before the deadline.
