Cairns Convention Centre Wins Gold in Business Events

A Major Win for Cairns

Cairns Convention Centre has secured Gold for Business Events Venue at the 40th Queensland Tourism Awards. The event took place on Friday, 14 November, at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre. It drew leaders from across the state. The award highlights the strength of Queensland’s visitor economy and confirms Cairns Convention Centre as a standout venue in the business events sector.

A Venue Framed by Natural Icons

Cairns Convention Centre sits between two globally recognized natural wonders: the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics Rainforest. Its setting gives delegates a rare mix of natural beauty and modern convenience. The venue’s facilities, service standards, and close ties with local partners have helped position Cairns as a competitive destination for national and international business events. This connection to place continues to shape the Centre’s identity and appeal.

Expansion Strengthening the Region

In 2023, the Centre completed a $176 million expansion designed to boost capacity and refresh its major spaces. The project introduced flexible meeting rooms, advanced technology, and striking views of Trinity Inlet. The upgrade brought new capability to the venue. Now, it’s possible to host a sporting event, a concert, and a conference on the same day. This improvement supports the growth of the region. Furthermore, it helps attract larger events and encourages longer delegate stays that benefit the local economy.

Leadership Proud of the Achievement

General Manager Janet Hamilton said the award reflects years of hard work and strong commitment from the entire team. She said: “Winning Gold for Business Events Venue is an incredible recognition of our journey. This award belongs to our team—the passionate, customer-focused professionals who consistently go above and beyond to deliver exceptional experiences and outstanding service for our clients. Every day, we showcase Cairns Convention Centre and Cairns as a destination for world-class business events on both the national and international stage. To our wonderful clients who choose us, and our incredible team—thank you.” Her comments highlight the importance of service, teamwork, and consistency across the organization.

Industry Leaders Praise the Region

Queensland Tourism Industry Council CEO Natassia Wheeler congratulated operators across Tropical North Queensland. She acknowledged their leadership in innovation and quality. She noted that the region continues to set strong standards for the rest of the state. Minister for the Environment and Tourism, Minister for Science and Innovation Andrew Powell also praised the sector’s achievements. He said the Awards celebrate the work of operators who deliver outstanding experiences for visitors. He added that the true measure of success comes from the memories guests take home after exploring Queensland.
