Celebrate Hispanic Heritage: Free Event in Las Vegas

A meaningful community night is on the calendar.
The free Hispanic Heritage Celebration takes place Friday, September 12, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Whitney Recreation Center, 5712 East Missouri Avenue in Las Vegas. Families, neighbors, and visitors are invited to enjoy live performances, hands-on crafts, and local flavors that honor Hispanic culture and community pride.

Event details

Organizers will showcase a variety of local performers throughout the evening, highlighting music, dance, and traditions that reflect the region’s diverse Hispanic communities. Guests can sample food, explore cultural crafts, and meet county staff who support neighborhood programs year-round. Because this is a free, open-to-the-public event, early arrival is encouraged to enjoy the full program. Additionally, the evening is designed for all ages, so multi-generational groups can share the experience together. The Hispanic Heritage Celebration underscores the County’s commitment to inclusive cultural programming and accessible arts engagement.

A center for every generation

The Whitney Recreation Center offers amenities that make the celebration easy to pair with a full evening of activity. Indoors, the facility features a gymnasium, fitness room, climbing wall, computer lab, and a game room, plus a reservable community room for meetings and gatherings. Outdoors, visitors will find basketball and tennis courts, a walking path, a playground, picnic shelters, and a seasonal pool. Therefore, families can customize the night—enjoy the program, then add playtime, a short walk, or a picnic under the lights.

Programs that build skills and leadership

County-backed youth programs help turn free time into growth opportunities. “Open Recreation” for ages 6–12 and “Teen Time” for ages 13–17 provide safe, structured spaces after school, including arts and crafts, sports, and games—at no cost. Moreover, the “Leaders of the Future” initiative supports teens with leadership development and community service, reinforcing skills that matter in and beyond the classroom. Seniors benefit as well. The co-located Whitney Senior Center offers a computer lab, bingo, fitness classes, and a lending library, so older adults can stay active, connected, and informed.

Why this celebration matters

Clark County’s Hispanic residents power the local economy, shape neighborhood identity, and enrich cultural life. Consequently, an evening dedicated to history, heritage, and contribution provides more than entertainment—it strengthens community ties. Commissioner Jim Gibson emphasized those goals by highlighting the celebration’s focus on honoring the past, recognizing present-day impact, and inviting everyone to participate. As a result, the night becomes a welcoming space to learn, share, and celebrate together.
