Las Vegas — The museum launches Hispanic Heritage Month on Sunday, September 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The kickoff begins a run of themed weekend programs through November 2. Families can expect music, art, film and hands-on making across the galleries.

Hispanic Heritage Month kickoff: music, making and film
First, a lively musical storytime sets the tone for the day. Next, local artist Mariely Febles leads an accessible, Frida Kahlo–inspired jewelry activity. Meanwhile, guest artist Vanessa Maciel guides visitors as they craft colorful alebrijes, the fantastical folk-art creatures. Then the Biomes Beyond Borders Gallery hosts Disney’s Coco at 12:00 p.m. and 2:20 p.m.. Complimentary popcorn and juice are available while supplies last. For comfort, guests are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets.1
Weekend flow through Nov 2
After opening day, the celebration continues each weekend through November 2. Programs feature Vanessa Maciel, Aleida Castro, Grupo Literario Comala and Sara Ives. Together, they highlight traditions, visual arts and storytelling. In addition, many sessions run in English and Spanish. As a result, multilingual families can participate with ease. The format supports short drop-ins and longer visits alike.
Why it matters
Representation in science spaces matters. The museum connects cultural practice with discovery-led learning. Activities emphasise authentic voices and approachable techniques. Consequently, young visitors gain role models, new skills and confidence. The impact extends beyond a single visit and into classrooms and homes.
