Employee giving powers Cox Charities grants

Cox Charities is a voluntary workplace giving program run by employees of Cox Communications.

Workers donate throughout the year and help decide where the funding goes. The program supports nonprofits that focus on education, housing, food security and environmental programs.

Over the years, Cox Charities has awarded more than $3.4 million in grants to nonprofit organizations across Southern Nevada.

The grants presented this year reflect the continued commitment of Cox employees to helping the local community.

Supporting education, housing and food programs

The nonprofits receiving grants each serve different community needs.

The Just One Project works to fight food insecurity and provide essential resources for families across the Las Vegas valley.

Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth provides housing, education support and services for homeless and at-risk youth.

Las Vegas Science & Natural History Museum focuses on education programs that help students explore science, technology and the natural world.

Cox Charities targets funding toward nonprofit programs that support STEM education for K-12 students, environmental sustainability and basic needs like food and housing.

Community support remains critical for nonprofits

Local nonprofits continue to face growing demand for services.

According to the Fundraising Effectiveness Project, the number of individual donors dropped 4.5 percent last year. Donor retention also declined by 2.6 percent.

At the same time, nonprofits report rising need for food assistance, housing support and education resources.

Cox Las Vegas Market Vice President Janet Uthman said the commitment from employees helps ensure the community continues to receive support.

“Cox employees continue to step up for local organizations,” Uthman said. “Their year-round giving and volunteerism make it possible for Cox Charities to deliver meaningful support.”

She added that the program helps nonprofits continue important work across Southern Nevada.
