Regenerative 5G mmWave payload for satellite-based internet
Paris, France – February 28, 2025 – Constellation Technologies & Operations (CTO) is transforming global telecommunications with the launch of the first regenerative 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) payload for satellite-based high-speed internet. This breakthrough innovation enables telecom operators to expand beyond terrestrial networks, providing faster speeds, lower latency, and wider coverage worldwide.
Advancing Space-Based 5G Connectivity
To enhance global internet access, CTO is developing a Very Low Earth Orbit (VLEO) satellite constellation. This next-generation system ensures low latency, high performance, and sustainable technology. Furthermore, it integrates seamlessly with existing telecom networks, making adoption simpler and more cost-effective for service providers.
Since securing €9.3 million in funding, CTO has made significant progress. Within six months, the company successfully developed its Early Test payload, which is designed for 5G mmWave satellite transmission. Because of this achievement, telecom providers will soon be able to deliver high-speed internet to rural and remote areas.
Early Test Payload: A Major Advancement in Telecommunications
After completing rigorous ground testing, the Early Test payload is now integrated into D-Orbit’s ION satellite platform. As a result, it is scheduled for launch in June 2025. This mission will mark the first-ever use of 5G mmWave spectrum for satellite-based internet transmission.
Key Benefits for Telecom Operators
CTO’s cutting-edge satellite-based 5G technology offers several advantages for telecom providers:
- Expands 5G coverage into rural and underserved regions, improving global accessibility.
- Delivers fast and reliable internet without requiring major infrastructure investments.
- Reduces costs by utilizing existing 5G mmWave spectrum, lowering expenses.
- Enhances network reliability through a hybrid satellite-terrestrial system, improving performance.
A New Approach to Satellite Communications
Unlike large-scale satellite constellations, CTO focuses on collaboration instead of competition. By offering a neutral, shared space-based network, telecom operators can manage satellite connectivity in the same way as terrestrial networks. As a result, they can expand coverage efficiently while minimizing operational costs.
Strengthening Leadership for Future Growth
To accelerate expansion, CTO has reinforced its leadership team. The company now includes more than 30 industry experts specializing in space, telecommunications, and technology. Because of this, CTO continues to drive innovation and ensure long-term sustainability in satellite communications.
Shaping the Future of Global Connectivity
By launching the regenerative 5G mmWave payload, CTO is taking a significant step toward universal high-speed internet. The company is setting new industry standards for low-latency, high-performance satellite communications, paving the way for a more connected world.
