A large structure fire broke out early Friday morning at the University Shopping Center on South Maryland Parkway. The incident occurred on July 25, 2025, at 8:12 AM, and involved multiple businesses, including a U.S. Post Office.
Clark County Fire Department units responded quickly and launched a full second-alarm fire attack within minutes of arriving on scene.

Fast escalation required aggressive response
Clark County Fire Department crews were dispatched to 4632 S. Maryland Parkway after callers reported smoke showing from the rear of the building. Engine 18 was the first unit to arrive and encountered heavy fire and smoke coming from the roof of a two-story strip mall. Due to the rapid spread through the attic, roofline, and second-floor units, Engine 18 immediately requested a second alarm for additional support.

Firefighters focused on containment strategy
The structure consisted of a central two-story section flanked by single-story occupancies on both the north and south sides. Crews established a defensive position to stop the spread to adjacent storefronts. As a result, the fire was successfully contained to the center of the building, affecting three separate commercial occupancies. One of those units housed a U.S. Post Office, where employees were present and safely evacuated without injury.
Other business owners being contacted
The remaining two businesses are believed to have been closed at the time of the fire. Fire officials are continuing efforts to contact the owners of those units to ensure all employees are accounted for. Because of the extensive structural damage, a full interior search has not yet been completed.
Investigation and joint agency support underway
The origin of the fire is believed to be on the first floor at the rear of the building. The exact cause is still under investigation. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians reported at the scene.
Multi-agency coordination aided containment
Support on-site included assistance from Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, UNLV PD, Southwest Gas, NV Energy, and Clark County Public Works and the Building Department. LVMPD played a critical role in crowd control, traffic diversion, and deployed drone surveillance to give fire command an aerial view during operations.
Damage assessment still pending
There is currently no dollar estimate available for property loss or structural damage. All future updates will be distributed through official CCFD communication channels as soon as details become available.
