Annual showcase highlights life-changing projects, grant funding and the power of the meetings and events industry
LONDON — The meetings and events industry gathered this week to celebrate an important milestone for one of its most respected charitable organizations.
Meeting Needs welcomed more than 85 supporters, partners, volunteers and beneficiaries to One Aldwych for its annual showcase event. The gathering highlighted the organization’s growing impact while recognizing individuals who have helped drive fundraising efforts across the industry.
The event showcased how donations generated through meetings, conferences and industry initiatives continue to transform lives in communities across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Most notably, Meeting Needs announced that it has now raised more than £2 million since its founding 22 years ago.
The charity has generated £2.062 million in funding and awarded 444 grants to support projects that create meaningful change for individuals and communities facing challenges.
Industry support continues making a difference
The annual showcase provided supporters with an opportunity to see how their contributions are making a real impact.
Meeting Needs focuses on providing grants to smaller charities and community organizations. Many of these groups require modest funding to launch programs, purchase equipment or expand services.
Those investments often create lasting benefits for people who need support the most.
The organization serves as a bridge between the meetings and events industry and charitable projects that may otherwise struggle to secure funding.
As a result, fundraising efforts throughout the sector continue reaching far beyond the events themselves.
Events R’ Talented team receives top honor
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the David Hackett Award for Outstanding Contribution to Meeting Needs.
This year’s award was presented to the Events R’ Talented team, including Matt Curran, Ken Findlay, Graeme Saunders and Paul Tidy.
The recognition honored years of dedication and fundraising support.
Events R’ Talented has supported Meeting Needs since its launch in 2018.
The initiative combines industry networking, entertainment and fundraising while bringing event professionals together for a common cause.
Last year alone, the event raised more than £29,000 for Meeting Needs.
Those funds continue supporting projects that deliver direct assistance to communities in need.
Meeting Needs leaders praised the team for its commitment and long-term support of the charity’s mission.
Zimbabwe project receives technology boost
The showcase also highlighted several beneficiary projects receiving support through Meeting Needs grants.
One featured initiative involved the Jafuta Foundation in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Funding provided through Meeting Needs will help deliver digital learning opportunities to young people in the region.
The grant will fund the purchase of 30 computers for the Batoka Centre of Hope.
Those resources will allow students to gain access to technology, digital education and practical skills that can improve future employment opportunities.
Organizers said the project demonstrates how relatively small grants can create meaningful long-term impact.
Supporting healing through creativity
Guests also learned about Be More Dandelion, a United Kingdom charity founded by former event planner Fiona Bool.
Through its Dandelion Project, the organization provides creative health programs, movement activities and trauma-informed support services.
The initiative helps women rebuild confidence, improve well-being and move forward after difficult life experiences.
The project reflects Meeting Needs’ commitment to supporting a diverse range of causes.
Beneficiaries range from educational programs and youth services to health, wellness and community development initiatives.
Industry generosity drives continued success
The annual showcase serves as an opportunity to thank supporters while demonstrating the results of their generosity.
Attendees hear directly from organizations benefiting from Meeting Needs grants.
Those personal stories help illustrate the connection between fundraising efforts and real-world outcomes.
Organizers say the event also encourages continued collaboration throughout the meetings and events sector.
The industry has long demonstrated its ability to bring people together.
Meeting Needs has shown that same spirit can also create positive social impact.
Looking toward the future
After surpassing the £2 million fundraising milestone, Meeting Needs leaders remain focused on expanding their impact.
The organization continues seeking support from businesses, event professionals and industry partners.
Every donation contributes to grants that help small charities deliver practical solutions within their communities.
More than two decades after its founding, Meeting Needs continues proving that the meetings and events industry can create change far beyond conference rooms and event venues.
For hundreds of organizations and thousands of individuals, that support has already made a lasting difference.
