The new numbers highlight the growing importance of tourism to Milwaukee’s economy. They also demonstrate the city’s increasing appeal as a destination for conventions, festivals, sporting events and leisure travel.

According to the report, visitors spent $2.507 billion directly in Milwaukee County during 2025. That spending supported nearly 28,000 jobs and generated significant tax revenue for local communities.

Visitor spending reaches new high

Milwaukee County welcomed strong visitor activity throughout 2025.

Direct visitor spending increased by nearly $68 million compared to the previous year. Total economic impact climbed by more than $110 million.

Tourism supported 27,812 jobs across Milwaukee County.

Additionally, the industry generated $1.425 billion in labor income.

State and local governments also benefited from tourism activity. The industry produced nearly $245 million in tax revenue during the year.

Those dollars help support public services while reducing the burden on local taxpayers.

County leaders praised the hospitality industry for helping drive economic growth throughout the region.

Milwaukee remains Wisconsin’s tourism leader

Milwaukee County once again generated more visitor spending than any other county in Wisconsin.

The county accounted for nearly 15 percent of all visitor spending statewide.

That performance helped Wisconsin achieve another historic tourism year.

Statewide tourism generated a record $27 billion in economic impact during 2025.

Wisconsin also welcomed a record 117.9 million visits.

Those figures marked back-to-back years of record visitation for the state.

Milwaukee played a major role in that success.

Tourism officials say the city continues attracting visitors because of its unique blend of culture, entertainment, dining and major events.

Festivals continue drawing visitors

Milwaukee’s festival scene remained one of its biggest tourism drivers.

Visit Milwaukee’s award-winning City of Festivals campaign helped showcase the city’s extensive lineup of cultural celebrations and community events.

The campaign reinforced Milwaukee’s reputation as one of the nation’s premier festival destinations.

Visitors traveled from across the country to experience events that have become part of Milwaukee’s identity.

Tourism leaders say festivals continue generating hotel stays, restaurant visits and spending at local businesses.

Those events also introduce new visitors to Milwaukee’s neighborhoods and attractions.

Expanded Baird Center boosts convention business

A major contributor to Milwaukee’s tourism success was the expanded Baird Center.

The convention facility completed its first full year of operations in 2025.

The expansion allowed Milwaukee to attract larger conventions, meetings and sporting events.

As a result, thousands of additional visitors traveled to the city throughout the year.

Convention attendees supported hotels, restaurants, attractions and retail businesses across Milwaukee County.

Tourism officials believe the expanded facility positions Milwaukee for continued growth in the meetings and convention industry.

The venue has already helped strengthen Milwaukee’s reputation as a competitive destination for major events.

Sports and cultural events generate momentum

Several high-profile events contributed to Milwaukee’s strong tourism performance.

USA Fencing Summer Nationals brought athletes and families from across the nation.

USA Wrestling competitions also attracted significant attendance.

Meanwhile, Oireachtas at Baird Center welcomed thousands of participants celebrating Irish culture.

Tourism leaders noted that major events provide benefits beyond immediate visitor spending.

Large-scale events help showcase Milwaukee to new audiences.

They also encourage future visits from travelers who may return for vacations, business trips or special events.

Culinary experiences attract travelers

Milwaukee’s food scene continued gaining national attention during 2025.

Visit Milwaukee launched “Milwaukee Flavor: The Cookbook” to spotlight local chefs, restaurants and food producers.

The initiative helped highlight the city’s growing culinary reputation.

Food tourism remains one of the fastest-growing segments of the travel industry.

Many visitors now choose destinations based on dining experiences.

Milwaukee’s expanding restaurant scene continues helping attract those travelers.

Tourism supports regional economy

Tourism’s impact extends beyond Milwaukee County.

Combined figures from Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha counties show tourism generated $6.858 billion in total economic impact during 2025.

The four-county region supported more than 45,000 jobs.

Direct visitor spending reached $3.814 billion.

The region also generated nearly $377 million in state and local tax revenue.

Those numbers demonstrate tourism’s importance throughout southeastern Wisconsin.

Looking toward continued growth

Tourism leaders remain optimistic about the future.

Milwaukee continues benefiting from strong event programming, expanding convention business and growing national visibility.

The city has established itself as a destination capable of hosting major sporting events, conventions and cultural celebrations.

As visitor numbers continue climbing, tourism officials believe Milwaukee is well positioned for additional growth.

The record-setting results from 2025 suggest that momentum remains strong.

For Milwaukee’s hospitality industry, businesses and workforce, another historic year has provided plenty of reasons to celebrate.
