A Personal Conversation with Amber Simo and Travis Richard
I had the chance to sit and talk with Brand Manager Amber Simo and Content Manager and Comic Creator Travis Richard from Multipure about their latest comic release. Multipure’s Dewey The Clean Water Superhero has become a recognizable figure in the community. Amber shared that the goal was to make learning about water safety fun. “We wanted a creative way to teach kids while turning learning into play,” she said. Dewey began as a mascot and gradually evolved into a fully developed comic series as children connected with the character. Storytelling and relatable heroes help children remember lessons about water safety, Amber explained.

Collaboration with Students
“Toxic Tides” introduces student-created villains like Toxic Girl, Frostbite, and Tony Toxin. Amber explained that the collaboration with the Clark County School District started with giving students a voice and engaging the local community. Travis added that the creative process involved reviewing all 268 contest entries. This helped determine which ideas brought the most life and inspiration to the story. Students were initially shy but became excited when learning their characters would appear in the comic. Amber said it was amazing to see how supportive students were of each other. It was also heartwarming to see how proud they were when winners were announced.

Lessons in Redemption and Responsibility
Toxic Girl’s story highlights redemption and the power of positive choices. Travis emphasized that the key takeaway for kids is that it is never too late to do the right thing. Comics like Toxic Tides strike a balance between education and entertainment. They teach valuable lessons one clean water adventure at a time. Amber noted that the students’ creativity exceeded expectations. Furthermore, the sheer variety of characters was inspiring. Dewey’s adventures help children understand that even small actions can impact water safety. They also promote environmental responsibility.

Celebrating Student Creativity
The Hydration Heroes contest invited K–5 students to design a villain for Dewey. They also had to explain why he must stop them. Winning characters are now featured in Toxic Tides, bringing students’ ideas from page to reality. Classrooms received cash prizes and school donations. Dewey made special appearances to present awards, and top-submitting classrooms won additional prizes and interactive educational visits. Amber shared that Multipure plans to expand the program to more school districts across the U.S. This continues to inspire creativity while teaching the importance of clean water.
Real-World Water Education
Dewey’s adventures often highlight real-world water challenges. Travis explained that the comics show kids how water issues affect their communities. Furthermore, they show how they can take action. Amber added that there are common misconceptions about tap water safety. The comics help raise awareness that tap water is clean and safe. Multipure has maintained its trusted reputation for over 50 years. It has done so through rigorous testing, certifications, and ongoing innovation. Using Multipure systems also reduces single-use plastic waste, supporting environmental sustainability.
Looking Ahead for Dewey
Fans can expect more Dewey adventures focusing on challenges affecting clean drinking water. Amber and Travis said the long-term goal of the series is to educate, raise awareness, and make learning fun. The team is motivated by working with kids and building the Dewey brand. If Dewey could give one message to every family today, it would be: never take clean water for granted and always stay hydrated.
