New Mental Health Facility Addresses Crisis Needs

A groundbreaking facility, the Crisis Stabilization Center, just opened in North Las Vegas.

Clark County and University Medical Center celebrated the launch of a new Crisis Stabilization Center on June 24, 2025. Located at 5409 E. Lake Mead Blvd., the 17,000-square-foot facility offers urgent psychiatric and detox services 24 hours a day. The center fills a long-standing gap in the region’s behavioral health system.

Regional leaders unite for urgent change

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, local and state dignitaries joined forces to highlight the project’s significance. Attendees included Clark County Commissioners, senior UMC officials, and members of the Nevada Division of Behavioral Health. Their presence emphasized the urgency of expanding access to immediate care through facilities like this center for people in crisis.

Designed to reduce ER and jail impact

The new Crisis Stabilization Center features 35 outpatient chairs. Services are available to adults 18 years and older regardless of insurance status. Law enforcement and EMS will be able to drop off individuals directly, while walk-ins are also accepted. Most patients will stay between four to 24 hours, receiving focused treatment during that time.

This short-term model is meant to ease pressure on local hospitals and detention facilities. Instead of being sent to emergency rooms or jails, individuals in crisis will now have a safe and clinical alternative, thanks to the crisis center.

State investment drives facility forward

The State of Nevada contributed $11.3 million to support construction and tenant improvements. Although behavioral health oversight rests with the state, Clark County took the lead in advancing this important solution for immediate community benefit. Monument Construction completed the renovation and transformation of the building into a secure care environment.

The project reflects a growing recognition that mental health care must be prioritized through public infrastructure, such as new centers for crisis stabilization. This center now serves as a real example of how partnerships can produce life-saving outcomes.

A new approach to behavioral health care

The Crisis Stabilization Center is a collaboration between Clark County and University Medical Center. On-site specialists will provide continuous medical support for individuals experiencing psychiatric emergencies or substance-related distress. The model focuses on stabilization, crisis de-escalation, and connecting patients to longer-term care if needed.

This approach helps reduce repeat ER visits, supports emergency services, and restores dignity to people in moments of extreme vulnerability. It is a significant shift in how the county treats urgent mental health needs, particularly through crisis stabilization measures.

The path ahead demands more action

This facility marks a turning point. However, county leaders made it clear that additional capacity remains necessary across Southern Nevada. Demand for behavioral services continues to grow. By opening this site, Clark County demonstrates what is possible with dedicated resources and urgency focused on crisis stabilization.

The center is expected to serve thousands each year, but it cannot meet the need alone. The public, providers, and policymakers must work together to continue this momentum. Mental health deserves not only awareness, but sustained infrastructure to support crisis stabilization efforts.

This facility sends a clear message: no one in Southern Nevada should face a psychiatric crisis without help—and now, thanks to this center, they won’t have to. This is a major step that will have ripple effects throughout the Las Vegas community.
