Olympic Flame Shines in Yvelines: Celebrating Heritage and Sports
Yvelines, France – July 23, 2024: Today, the Yvelines department welcomed the Olympic Flame with an extraordinary celebration. From Rambouillet to Versailles, the region came alive as 175 Torchbearers carried the Flame, marking this historic day. Highlights included a football relay with Didier Deschamps at Clairefontaine, a golf relay at Golf National de Guyancourt led by Patricia Meunier-Lebouc, and a mesmerizing stroll through the Château de Versailles with Salma Hayek Pinault and Patrick Bruel. Tennis star Caroline Garcia concluded the day by lighting the Chaudron at the Versailles celebration site.
The Olympic Flame’s Journey Through Yvelines
The Flame’s route showcased the rich diversity and heritage of Yvelines, often called “a little France.” The journey began at the Château de Rambouillet and moved through iconic locations such as Clairefontaine, Les Mureaux, Mantes-la-Ville, and Poissy, before reaching the magnificent Palace of Versailles. Each stop highlighted Yvelines’ historical significance and its vibrant sports culture.
Celebrating French Football and Golf
At Clairefontaine, known as the temple of French football, the Flame was carried by Didier Deschamps, along with notable figures like Marie-Laure Delie, Sandrine Soubeyrand, Clément Turpin, and Gabriel Henry. The golf relay at Golf National de Guyancourt featured stars such as Gwladys Nocera, Thomas Levet, Jean Van de Veldre, and Charles-Henry Quelin, showcasing the site’s significance in hosting international golf events.
Honoring the Torchbearers
The day was graced by esteemed Torchbearers including Shohei Ono, Bruno Marie-Rose, Rai Souza Vieira de Oliveira, Alice Metais, and Caroline Garcia. Their participation highlighted the Olympic values of unity and excellence. The event also celebrated anonymous Torchbearers like Charlotte Balicourt, Frédérique Martz, and Astrid Duberos, whose inspiring stories added to the spirit of the celebration.
