Play Playground Las Vegas and Hope Means Nevada will host a free study break event for local teens on May 19, offering two hours of complimentary gameplay during final exam week.
The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Play Playground inside the Luxor Hotel and Casino. Organizers said the goal is to give teens a chance to step away from academic pressure and focus on stress relief during a demanding time of the school year.
Event Focuses on Mental Health Awareness
The study break is scheduled during National Mental Health Awareness Month. It also coincides with final exams, when stress levels among students tend to increase.
Teens between the ages of 13 and 18 are eligible to attend. Participants will have access to more than 20 interactive games and physical activities inside the venue.
Because of the structure of the event, organizers expect teens to spend time moving, socializing, and engaging in group activities. These experiences are intended to offer a break from screens and schoolwork.
Data Highlights Need for Support
Recent data shows ongoing mental health challenges among young people in Nevada. According to a national report, more than one in five adolescents in the state experienced a major depressive episode within the past year.
Because of these findings, community groups have focused on creating accessible programs that support emotional well-being. Events like the study break aim to provide simple and immediate outlets for stress.
Organizers said the event reflects a broader effort to address mental health through everyday activities rather than formal interventions alone.
Play-Based Activities Linked to Stress Relief
Research continues to show that play can help reduce stress. Physical movement and social interaction are often linked to improved mood and lower anxiety levels.
Studies also suggest that playful activities can reduce cortisol, a hormone associated with stress, while increasing endorphins. These biological responses can help individuals feel more relaxed and focused.
Because of this, organizers chose a setting that encourages active participation rather than passive entertainment.
Partnership Expands Community Reach
The collaboration between Play Playground and Hope Means Nevada brings together entertainment and nonprofit resources. Each organization contributes a different role to the event.
Play Playground provides the space and activities, while Hope Means Nevada focuses on outreach and mental health awareness.
“It’s always been part of our mission to create spaces for real interaction,” said Phil Royle, chief executive officer of Play Playground.
Hope Means Nevada officials said the partnership helps connect teens with healthy coping tools in a familiar environment.
Additional Fundraising Component Included
During the event, visitors can also purchase Play Passes for future use. The venue will donate 20% of those purchases to Hope Means Nevada.
The passes remain valid for 12 months, allowing participants to return at a later time. Because of this option, the event includes both immediate engagement and longer-term support.
Organizers said the fundraising component helps extend the impact beyond the two-hour event window.
Attendance Requirements and Safety
Teens attending the event must present a valid student identification card. In addition, participants must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old.
Organizers said these requirements are intended to maintain a safe and structured environment. Advanced registration is also encouraged to manage attendance levels.
Because of the limited timeframe, the venue expects steady participation throughout the two-hour period.
Growing Focus on Youth Mental Health
The study break reflects a growing focus on youth mental health across the region. Schools, nonprofits, and businesses have increased efforts to provide accessible resources for students.
Events like this offer informal ways to address stress while encouraging connection. They also give teens a chance to take a break without leaving their social environment.
Organizers said they hope the event will encourage similar programs in the future.
