Safer St. Patrick’s Day: Lyft Discount in Nevada

Drivers celebrating St. Patrick’s Day in Nevada will have a safer way to get home this year. The Nevada Zero Coalition is offering discounted rides through Lyft to help reduce impaired driving during the holiday weekend.

The program is part of Nevada’s Zero Fatalities Program, a statewide effort that works to eliminate deaths on Nevada roads. Officials say the ride discounts will give people celebrating the holiday an easy option to avoid driving under the influence.

The promotion will be available in Las Vegas and Reno, two cities that typically see large crowds during St. Patrick’s Day celebrations.

Ride discounts available throughout the holiday weekend

The safe ride promotion will run from 5 p.m. on March 14 through 6 a.m. on March 18. During that time, riders can receive $5 off one Lyft trip by using the code SAFERIDENV.

The offer is limited to 200 riders total, and each person can redeem the code for one discounted ride. The promotion will remain active until all discounts are claimed.

Participants can enter the code directly in the Lyft app or redeem it through a special Lyft webpage created for the program.

Officials say the goal is to encourage people to plan ahead before celebrating. Choosing a ride service instead of driving while impaired can help prevent crashes and save lives.

Officials warn about increased risks during St. Patrick’s Day

Safety advocates say holidays and major celebrations often lead to an increase in impaired driving incidents.

According to Anita Pepper, St. Patrick’s Day can be a time when traffic crashes linked to impaired driving rise across the state.

“St. Patrick’s Day is a celebration for many Nevadans, but it is also a time when impaired-driving crashes historically increase,” Pepper said.

She explained that impairment can come from several sources. Alcohol is the most common factor, but cannabis and prescription medications can also affect a person’s ability to drive safely.

“Whether it’s alcohol, cannabis, or prescription medication, driving under the influence is impaired driving,” Pepper said. “The Zero Coalition urges everyone to plan ahead, celebrate responsibly, and choose a sober ride. Lives are on the line.”

A statewide campaign focused on saving lives

The Zero Fatalities Program was created to reduce serious crashes and traffic deaths across Nevada. The program focuses on education, prevention and public awareness.

Officials say the campaign promotes several key safe driving habits that can reduce accidents.

These include:

  • Always wearing a seat belt
  • Staying focused on the road
  • Avoiding impaired driving
  • Watching for pedestrians and motorcycles
  • Stopping at red lights

The program’s mission is clear. When it comes to road safety, the only acceptable number of fatalities is zero.

Supporters of the campaign say each safe choice made by drivers can help protect families, friends and communities across Nevada.

Planning a safe ride home

Officials encourage anyone celebrating St. Patrick’s Day to plan transportation before going out.

Using ride services, public transportation or a designated sober driver can help prevent impaired driving incidents.

Programs like the Lyft discount are designed to remove barriers and make safe travel easier for everyone.

Residents and visitors in Las Vegas and Reno can redeem the SAFERIDENV code through the Lyft app during the promotion period while supplies last.
