Lane restrictions will begin Sunday, Aug. 10 on Maryland Parkway as crews prepare to demolish a pedestrian bridge between Desert Inn Road and Sunrise Hospital. The 50-year-old structure is being removed due to disrepair and reduced usage.

Bridge demolition to close lanes in both directions
Starting at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10, Maryland Parkway will be reduced to one lane in each direction from just south of Desert Inn Road to just north of the Sunrise Hospital main entrance. All traffic will shift to the west side of the road through 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13. After that, traffic will be moved to the east side of Maryland Parkway through 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 15 to allow crews to complete demolition work safely.
Access remains open to hospitals and businesses
Access to Sunrise Hospital, Sunrise Children’s Hospital, and all surrounding businesses will remain open. Drivers are asked to use caution when entering or exiting the area. Construction crews will ensure continued emergency access at all times while the bridge is removed.
Heavy equipment and traffic delays expected
Large cranes and other demolition equipment will remain on-site throughout the week. This may create traffic congestion during peak hours. Drivers should expect delays, especially as the Clark County School District and UNLV begin their school year. Congestion will likely increase, so commuters are strongly encouraged to leave early or use alternate routes.
Recommended detours and route planning
Officials recommend using Eastern Avenue or University Center Drive to avoid the construction zone. The free Waze app can help drivers navigate the area by offering live updates and suggested detours. Signage will be posted near the demolition site to guide vehicles safely through the one-lane traffic pattern.
The demolition supports long-term safety improvements along the Maryland Parkway corridor. Drivers should prepare for congestion and use alternate routes when possible to avoid delays caused by the Maryland Parkway lane closures.
