Las Vegas Science and Natural History Museum is preparing for a summer filled with hands-on learning, interactive science activities, and family-friendly exploration as the museum launches its new STEAM Powered Summer Program beginning later this month.
The educational summer series runs May 26 through Aug. 7 and will feature rotating activities focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Museum leaders said the program was designed to encourage curiosity and creativity while helping children connect classroom concepts to real-world experiences.

MineFest Event Kicks Off Summer Season
The summer lineup begins Friday, May 23, with MineFest: The Block Party, a one-day themed event inspired by block-building exploration games and survival adventures.
The event takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. throughout the museum.
Guests will participate in hands-on STEM activities tied to mining, crafting, building, and environmental discovery.
Activities include mineral exploration, resource extraction demonstrations, terrarium building, and habitat-focused learning experiences featuring live animals.
Because interactive gaming themes continue connecting strongly with younger audiences, museums and educational organizations increasingly use game-inspired programming to introduce scientific concepts in creative ways.

Museum Blends Education With Play
Officials said the summer programming focuses heavily on making science approachable and exciting for children and families.
“Our summer programming is all about creating hands-on experiences that make learning feel exciting and accessible,” said Valerie Miranda.
She added that activities involving experimentation, live animals, and building projects help students engage more deeply with science.
Throughout the summer, museum guests will find activities designed for different age groups and learning styles.

Weekly Activities Offer Rotating Experiences
The STEAM Powered Summer Program includes several recurring activities scheduled throughout the week.
Programs include Early Explorers for younger children, Discovery Cart experiences, and interactive Touch Pool sessions.
Guests can also participate in Creation Station workshops focused on robotics, engineering, and 3D design concepts.
Meanwhile, Critter Connection sessions will give visitors opportunities to interact with live animals while learning about biology and ecosystems.
Additional rotating programs include Sustainability Lab, Art in Action, Shark Feeds, and Arachnid Talks.
Because activities rotate throughout the season, organizers said families can enjoy different experiences during repeat visits.
Museum Continues Educational Mission
Las Vegas Science and Natural History Museum has served the Las Vegas community since 1989.
The nonprofit museum later became a Smithsonian Affiliate and earned accreditation from the American Alliance of Museums.
The museum also serves as both a federal and state repository for fossils and historical artifacts.
Its exhibits cover a wide range of topics including paleontology, marine life, desert ecosystems, African wildlife, and prehistoric history.
Because educational attractions continue playing an important role in Las Vegas tourism and community outreach, museums throughout the city have expanded youth-focused programming in recent years.
Families Seek Interactive Summer Activities
Summer educational programs remain increasingly popular among families looking for activities beyond traditional camps and recreation programs.
Industry experts say parents continue searching for affordable experiences that combine entertainment with educational value during school breaks.
Museum officials noted that all STEAM Powered Summer activities are included with regular museum admission or memberships.
As a result, families can participate throughout the season without paying separate event fees.
Museum Encourages Early Planning
Officials encourage guests to review the museum’s online calendar before visiting since activities rotate daily and weekly.
The museum expects increased attendance throughout the summer months as seasonal tourism and family travel activity rises across Southern Nevada.
MineFest: The Block Party is expected to serve as one of the summer’s largest kickoff events.
