Las Vegas lit up with purpose this morning. The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign now glows in blue and green to honor National Donate Life Month.
This symbolic gesture brings much-needed attention to the urgent need for organ, eye, and tissue donations. Every bulb tells a story. Every color shines with hope.

A Ceremony of Light and Life
Today at 9:30 a.m., Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft stood beside the Nevada Donor Network and flipped the switch. Instantly, the 89 bulbs circling the iconic sign burst into blue and green.
The ceremony took place on the Las Vegas Strip, just south of Russell Road. It wasn’t just a photo op—it was a call to action.

Every 8 Minutes, Someone Is Added to the List
Across the United States, over 100,000 people are waiting for organ transplants. Nearly 700 of them live in Nevada. And every 8 minutes, another name joins the list.
Yet sadly, about 13 people lose their lives every single day because an organ didn’t arrive in time. The need is real—and it’s urgent.
Leaders Speak Out for Donor Awareness
Commissioner Naft emphasized how powerful this moment is. “Lighting the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign reminds us that donation is heroic,” he said. “Anyone in Clark County can become a life-saving donor.”
Gordon Prouty, President of the Nevada Donor Network Foundation, echoed that urgency.

Becoming a Donor Is Simple—and Powerful
Residents and visitors alike are urged to register as organ and tissue donors. It takes less than a minute to sign up at nvdonor.org or at your local DMV.
That single action could change—and save—multiple lives. It’s the ultimate gift, and it’s open to all of us.
History and Heart Behind the Icon
The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign dates back to 1959. Designed by Betty Willis and crafted by Western Neon, the sign has become a global landmark.
In 2009, it earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places during Clark County’s centennial year. Today, it stands as a beacon—not just for tourism, but for community and compassion.
