Ottawa’s Growing Appeal for Engineering Events

Ottawa Grows Its Technical Event Strength

Ottawa is gaining strong momentum with IEEE groups and wider engineering sectors. The city has secured new bids and is growing its pipeline. Organizers say Ottawa engineering events benefit from access to decision makers, national regulators and leading tech companies. They also value the compact downtown and the advantages of meeting in a G7 capital.

Major IEEE Success This Year

A major highlight this year was the IEEE International Symposium on Antennas and Propagation and the North American Radio Science Meeting. The event took place in July and drew more than 1,500 delegates. The effort to secure the meeting began at IEEE Convene in 2019. The event also received destination funding support. This win has boosted interest in Ottawa engineering events across global technical groups.

New Wins Strengthen the Years Ahead

More technical meetings are confirmed for Ottawa. The International District Energy Association Annual Conference and Tradeshow will take place in 2026. The bid was supported by federal ICAF funding. Organisers chose Ottawa for its strong energy technology sector and access to national policy leaders. Recent years have also seen major engineering events in the city, including the IEEE Nuclear and Space Radiation Effects Conference in 2024, the International Conference on the Physics of Semiconductors in 2024 and IEEE Sections Congress in 2023.

Organisers Value Local Expertise

“Ottawa gives technical groups direct access to Canada’s capital, national regulators and industry leaders,” said Stephanie Seguin, Vice President, Business & Major Events at Ottawa Tourism. “Our community understands complex technical programs. We help organisers find the right experts, testbeds and companies. Delegates gain new knowledge and form real collaborations.” Her remarks reflect why Ottawa engineering events continue to grow.

A Deep Technology Sector Supports Growth

Ottawa’s strong technology economy reinforces its appeal as a meeting city. More than 1,800 knowledge-based firms operate here. The city has one of the highest levels of tech talent in North America. Major global companies such as Nokia, Ford, Ericsson, Ciena and IBM run key operations in the region. Local leaders such as Shopify, Kinaxis, Ross Video, Fullscript and Mitel also drive growth. Invest Ottawa continues to support expansion and talent development. “Ottawa’s community and innovation spaces help world-class technical events succeed,” said Sonya Shorey, President and CEO of Invest Ottawa & Area XO. “Organisers tap into an ecosystem that moves ideas forward.”
