Women United Sip N Sort: Empowering Women Through Community Service

Community members came together in Las Vegas for the Women United Sip N Sort volunteer event hosted by United Way of Southern Nevada. The event took place March 5th at the organization’s headquarters on West Flamingo Road.

The gathering followed the annual Women United Suit Drive, which collects professional clothing for women working toward career opportunities. Volunteers spent the afternoon sorting donations that will help women prepare for job interviews and employment.

The event mixed community service with conversation, creating a relaxed environment where volunteers could help while connecting with others.

Volunteers organize clothing donations for women

Tables throughout the venue were filled with donated clothing and accessories. Volunteers sorted items such as business suits, dresses, shoes and handbags.

The goal was to organize the donations so they can be distributed to local programs that support women entering the workforce.

The Sip N Sort format allows volunteers to see the impact of their work right away. Instead of simply donating items, participants help prepare the clothing for women who need professional attire.

Two volunteer shifts were available during the day.

The first shift ran from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.. The second shift ran from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Both shifts helped move the sorting process forward so the clothing could be distributed quickly to local partner organizations.

Community conversation highlights impact of the suit drive

At the event, our editor Alan Merritt spoke with Audrie Curci, marketing manager for United Way of Southern Nevada.

Curci explained that the Women United Suit Drive focuses on helping women gain confidence as they pursue career opportunities.

Professional clothing can make a difference when preparing for interviews or starting a new job. Having the right attire can help someone feel ready to succeed.

Curci also shared that the Sip N Sort event gives volunteers a deeper connection to the program. By sorting the clothing themselves, they see how their efforts directly support women in the community.

She noted that Women United continues to grow as more volunteers and partners join the initiative each year.

A community effort to support career opportunities

The Women United Suit Drive relies on support from businesses, community groups and local donors across Southern Nevada.

Items donated include suits, blouses, dresses, shoes and accessories that meet professional dress standards.

Once sorted, the clothing will be distributed to organizations that assist women with job training, career placement and workforce programs.

The donations provide practical support while also helping women feel confident during important career moments.
