Antwerp Welcomes Europe’s Chemistry Community as ECC10 Arrives

ANTWERP, Belgium — Antwerp is preparing to welcome the European and global chemistry community as the 10th EuChemS Chemistry Congress (ECC10) arrives in the city next week.

The congress will take place from July 12-16, 2026, at A Room with a ZOO. Hosted by the Royal Flemish Chemical Society (KVCV), the event will attract researchers, industrial chemists, academics, early-career scientists and industry leaders from around the world.

The gathering will highlight the growing importance of chemistry in solving some of today’s biggest challenges. Organizers expect thousands of delegates to participate in scientific discussions, networking opportunities and industry-focused events.

Scientific program covers major chemistry topics

The ECC10 Chemistry Congress Antwerp program offers a wide range of activities. Attendees can take part in plenary lectures, invited talks, oral presentations, poster sessions, workshops and symposia.

Additionally, the congress features dedicated programs for young chemists. These sessions aim to support the next generation of scientific leaders.

The event’s eight themes cover many areas of modern chemistry. Topics include catalysis, materials science, analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, sustainability, energy, biology, food science and artificial intelligence.

Furthermore, discussions will examine how chemistry supports climate action, innovation and economic growth.

Industry Day strengthens research connections

One of the highlights of the ECC10 Chemistry Congress Antwerp event will be Industry Day.

This special program connects academic researchers with industry professionals. As a result, delegates can explore how scientific discoveries move from the laboratory into real-world applications.

Industry Day will focus on competitiveness, circular economy initiatives, digital transformation and sustainable product development.

Meanwhile, the City of Antwerp will host a special session showcasing its local chemistry ecosystem. Officials will explain how businesses, universities and research institutions work together to support future growth.

Antwerp showcases global chemistry leadership

For Antwerp, ECC10 represents more than an international conference.

The city is home to Europe’s largest integrated chemical cluster. In fact, it ranks as the world’s second-largest chemical cluster. More than 500 chemical companies operate throughout the region.

Antwerp produces more than 300 different chemical products. The city also benefits from one of Europe’s busiest ports and a strong logistics network.

Delegates will experience a destination where chemistry plays a vital role in daily business and innovation.

Unique venue welcomes international delegates

A Room with a ZOO offers a distinctive setting for the congress.

The venue sits next to Antwerp Central Station and within walking distance of the historic city center. Consequently, delegates can easily explore Antwerp’s attractions between sessions.

Dr. Christophe De Bie, president of KVCV and congress organizer, said Antwerp provides the ideal environment for collaboration.

“ECC10 is much more than a scientific conference,” De Bie said. “It is a platform where academia, industry and the wider innovation ecosystem can collaborate to accelerate sustainable solutions.”

Tadeja Pivc Coudyser, CEO of Antwerp Convention Bureau, echoed those sentiments.

“It is a privilege to welcome ECC10 to Antwerp, a city where chemistry is part of our identity and our future,” she said.

Besides attending scientific sessions, visitors can enjoy Antwerp’s historic architecture, museums, restaurants, fashion district and vibrant summer atmosphere.

As ECC10 begins, Antwerp looks forward to supporting new partnerships, fresh ideas and innovative solutions that will shape the future of chemistry across Europe and beyond.
