LAS VEGAS — Sometimes a cupcake can do much more than satisfy a sweet tooth.
On Tuesday, July 14, Freed’s Bakery partnered with HELP of Southern Nevada for its special “Cupcakes for a Cause” fundraiser, giving Southern Nevada residents an opportunity to support a meaningful cause while enjoying one of the city’s favorite treats.
The one-day fundraiser offered cupcakes for just $1.50 each through online pre-orders. Even more importantly, 75 percent of every cupcake sold directly benefited HELP of Southern Nevada and its many programs that serve individuals and families throughout the community.
Just Now News visited Freed’s Bakery on Tuesday afternoon to participate in the fundraiser and personally deliver a dozen cupcakes to HELP of Southern Nevada. What unfolded during our visit demonstrated the power of community support and the generosity that continues to define Southern Nevada.
Community response fills the bakery
While at Freed’s Bakery, it quickly became clear that the fundraiser had captured the attention of the community.
Customers entered the bakery throughout the afternoon to pick up their pre-ordered cupcakes. Some arrived with family members. Others stopped in during lunch breaks or after work. Several customers carried multiple boxes destined for offices, community groups and family gatherings.
The steady flow of supporters created an atmosphere filled with excitement and purpose.
Rather than simply purchasing dessert, customers understood they were helping support an organization that provides critical services throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
It was amazing to witness the response firsthand.
Each customer represented another contribution to HELP of Southern Nevada’s mission. Moreover, the event showed how local residents are willing to support important causes when businesses create opportunities to give back.
More than a fundraiser
The success of Cupcakes for a Cause extended beyond cupcake sales.
The event raised awareness about the work HELP of Southern Nevada performs every day. The nonprofit organization provides housing assistance, workforce development programs, youth services and emergency support to thousands of Southern Nevada residents each year.
HELP of Southern Nevada works to help individuals overcome barriers that prevent long-term stability and self-sufficiency.
As a result, community fundraising efforts play an important role in helping the organization continue its mission.
Every cupcake purchased contributed directly to that effort.
Delivering a dozen cupcakes
After picking up a dozen cupcakes from Freed’s Bakery, the Just Now News team traveled to HELP of Southern Nevada to deliver a dozen cup cakes to them personally.
The visit served as a small gesture of appreciation for the nonprofit’s dedicated staff and the important work they perform throughout the year.
It provided an opportunity to recognize the partnership between a local business and a respected nonprofit organization.
The fundraiser highlighted what can happen when businesses, nonprofits and residents unite behind a common goal.
Las Vegas generosity on display
What stood out most during the afternoon was the spirit of the community.
People from all walks of life participated in the fundraiser. Some purchased a few cupcakes, while others ordered enough to share with coworkers and friends.
