Big Feelings, Strong Foundations program focuses on children’s emotional well-being and family support
LAS VEGAS — Parents and caregivers across Southern Nevada will have an opportunity this summer to learn new tools that support children’s emotional health and development.
United Way of Southern Nevada, in partnership with Intermountain Health, is launching Big Feelings, Strong Foundations, a free three-part workshop series designed to help families better understand childhood emotions, behavior and mental wellness.
The workshops will take place at United Way of Southern Nevada’s offices on West Flamingo Road and are open to parents, caregivers and families interested in strengthening emotional well-being at home.
Organizers say the program comes at a time when many families are looking for practical strategies to help children navigate challenges, build confidence and develop healthy coping skills.
Program focuses on early childhood development
The workshop series is designed to provide simple, real-world guidance that families can begin using immediately.
Participants will explore topics ranging from behavioral health awareness to emotional development and available community resources.
Samuel Rudd, president and chief executive officer of United Way of Southern Nevada, said supporting children’s emotional health benefits both families and the community as a whole.
“Supporting the emotional health of children is one of the most important investments we can make in our community’s future,” Rudd said. “Our partnership with Intermountain Health ensures that parents and caregivers have access to the resources they need to help their families thrive.”
Health professionals say emotional well-being during early childhood often plays a significant role in long-term development.
Consequently, programs that provide education and support to caregivers can have a lasting impact on children and families.
Three workshops scheduled this summer
The series begins June 22 and continues through August.
Each session will focus on a different aspect of childhood emotional health.
The first workshop, Why Behavioral Health Matters at This Age, will take place Monday, June 22, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Next, Early Childhood Emotional Well-Being is scheduled for Thursday, July 23, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The final session, Resources You Need to Know, will be held Wednesday, Aug. 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Families may attend a single workshop or participate in all three sessions.
Community partnership expands access
Intermountain Health leaders say the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to supporting family wellness throughout Southern Nevada.
“Supporting children’s emotional health begins with equipping families with the right tools early on,” said Will Rucker, Director of Community Health for Nevada at Intermountain Health. “We’re proud to partner with United Way of Southern Nevada to provide practical guidance that helps caregivers nurture strong, healthy foundations for their children.”
Organizers hope the workshops will encourage meaningful conversations while helping families feel more confident addressing emotional and behavioral challenges.
Registration is free, although advance sign-ups are encouraged.
