KRAKÓW, Poland — WordCamp Europe 2026 brought together the global WordPress community for three days of learning, collaboration and innovation in one of Europe’s most historic cities.
The event took place June 4-6 at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre. Organizers welcomed approximately 2,500 attendees from more than 80 countries. Meanwhile, another 7,000 people followed the conference through live streams around the world.
WordCamp Europe remains the largest WordPress community event in Europe. Every year, it attracts developers, designers, marketers, business owners and content creators who share a passion for open-source technology.
The conference opened with Contributor Day. More than 750 participants worked on projects that help improve WordPress and support its worldwide community.
Additionally, contributors joined teams focused on development, accessibility, documentation, translation and community outreach.
CERN Shares Large-Scale WordPress Success Story
One of the event’s most anticipated presentations came during the opening keynote.
The session, titled Two Worlds Collide: WordPress at CERN, explored how the world-renowned scientific organization adopted WordPress as its content management system.
Speakers explained the challenges involved in managing hundreds of websites across a global organization. They also discussed the successful migration of more than 800 websites to a customized WordPress platform.
Furthermore, attendees learned how WordPress continues to support organizations operating on a massive scale.
The presentation demonstrated the platform’s flexibility and ability to meet complex technical requirements.
Consequently, many attendees viewed the keynote as one of the most valuable sessions of the conference.
Student Developers Showcase New Ideas
Students from several educational institutions also took center stage during the event.
Representatives from Kraków University of Technology, Kraków University of Economics and VIII LO High School presented WordPress projects developed during the academic year.
Their work highlighted creativity, technical skill and a strong understanding of digital publishing tools.
Moreover, the presentations provided a glimpse into the future generation of WordPress professionals.
Industry leaders praised the students for their innovation and enthusiasm.
Many attendees said the showcase was one of the conference’s most inspiring moments.
AI and the Future of WordPress Take Center Stage
The conference concluded with a fireside chat featuring WordPress Executive Director Mary Hubbard, Lead Architect Matías Ventura and Product Advisor Rich Tabor.
The discussion focused on artificial intelligence, platform development and the future direction of WordPress.
Additionally, panelists explored how AI tools could improve content creation, site management and user experiences.
Attendees gained insight into upcoming innovations and long-term priorities for the WordPress ecosystem.
As a result, many left the event optimistic about the platform’s future.
New Tools Generate Excitement
Several new projects attracted attention throughout the conference.
Push MD emerged as one of the most discussed tools. The platform combines WordPress content management with Git-based workflows and static site generation.
Meanwhile, WordPress Studio is now available for Linux users. The update expands local development options and gives developers more flexibility.
Another feature generating buzz was the new “/annotate” command in Studio Code. The tool allows developers to make WordPress site edits directly from a browser.
Furthermore, Automattic highlighted several new features released during Radical Speed Month.
These updates focused on improving performance, usability and development efficiency.
WordCamp Europe 2026 demonstrated that WordPress remains one of the world’s most active open-source communities. The conference also showed how innovation, collaboration and artificial intelligence continue shaping the future of web publishing.
