Historic Mack truck leads major motorcycle escort to new home in the Arts District
LAS VEGAS — Evel Knievel’s famous “Big Red” Mack truck rolled into Las Vegas Saturday ahead of the opening of The Evel Knievel Experience in the Arts District.
The fully restored truck made several stops across the city during a special event called “Big Red’s Run.” Organizers used the cross-country journey to celebrate the arrival of one of the most recognized vehicles connected to the legendary stunt performer.
JUST NOW NEWS attended the first stop of the day at TEC Equipment. During the event, founders Mike Patterson and Lathan McKay shared details about the new attraction and its connection to Evel Knievel’s legacy.
Restored truck traveled more than 1,300 miles
The 63-foot-long Mack truck once traveled with Evel Knievel during his touring years. Restoration teams spent years rebuilding the historic vehicle before launching its multi-state trip to Las Vegas.
According to organizers, more than 90 craftsmen worked on the project. The restoration focused on returning the truck and trailer to their original appearance while preserving the history tied to Evel Knievel’s career.
The truck traveled more than 1,300 miles during “Big Red’s Run.” Along the way, fans gathered at public stops to take photos and celebrate the stunt icon’s lasting impact on American pop culture.
Motorcycle riders joined Strip celebration
Saturday’s event also included a stop at Las Vegas Harley-Davidson before motorcycle riders escorted the truck along the Las Vegas Strip.
Organizers estimated that between 100 riders joined the procession. The large escort created a highly visible scene as the truck moved toward downtown Las Vegas and the Arts District.
Supporters lined several areas along the route while riders celebrated Evel Knievel’s influence on motorcycle culture and entertainment history.
Attraction plans June opening
Organizers plan to officially open The Evel Knievel Experience on June 27. The attraction will feature rare memorabilia, interactive exhibits, and historic artifacts connected to Evel Knievel’s life and career.
The experience will also include immersive displays designed to showcase Knievel’s famous stunts, touring years, and cultural influence.
The Las Vegas attraction expands on the original Evel Knievel Museum that first opened in Topeka, Kansas. Organizers said the move to Las Vegas will help introduce Knievel’s story to a larger international audience.
Cross-country journey supports military families
In addition to celebrating the museum opening, “Big Red’s Run” also supports military families through a partnership with the United Service Organizations.
Supporters can pledge donations tied to the truck’s mileage during the cross-country trip. Organizers said the effort adds a charitable mission to the celebration surrounding the historic vehicle’s arrival.
