Las Vegas is moving closer to becoming an official Major League Baseball city as construction continues accelerating on the Athletics’ new $2 billion stadium project on the Las Vegas Strip.
Located on the former site of the historic Tropicana Las Vegas, the future home of the Athletics is already beginning to reshape the south Strip skyline. Construction crews continue making visible progress each week as the massive project pushes toward its anticipated 2028 opening.
The stadium will serve as the permanent home of the Athletics after the franchise officially relocates to Las Vegas from Oakland.

Construction Progress Moving Ahead of Schedule
According to recent construction updates, the stadium project is currently ahead of schedule as foundation work and structural development continue across the site.
Heavy construction work officially began in 2025 following the implosion of Tropicana Las Vegas in October 2024. Since then, crews have completed major foundation work while vertical construction continues rising above ground level.
Industry reports say steel roof installation could begin later this summer as the project enters another major phase of development.
The ballpark project is being handled by Mortenson and McCarthy Building Companies, the same construction firms that helped build Allegiant Stadium.

New Stadium Will Transform the Las Vegas Strip
The future stadium sits directly along Las Vegas Boulevard near MGM Grand and Excalibur.
Designed by Bjarke Ingels Group and HNTB, the ballpark features a futuristic design that many fans have compared to a “spherical armadillo” because of its layered roof structure.
The indoor stadium will include:
- Approximately 33,000 seats
- A climate-controlled roof
- Massive cable-net windows overlooking the Strip
- Premium luxury suites
- Club seating and social lounges
- A three-acre entertainment plaza
The project also includes plans for a new Bally’s hotel tower development surrounding the stadium.

Athletics Expected to Open Stadium in 2028
Current projections still place the stadium opening for the 2028 Major League Baseball season.
Until then, the Athletics will continue playing temporarily at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.
However, Las Vegas baseball fans will get an early preview in 2026 when the Athletics host six regular-season home games at Las Vegas Ballpark in Summerlin.
The games are expected to generate huge interest among local fans eager to welcome Major League Baseball to Southern Nevada.

Stadium Expected to Boost Las Vegas Economy
Tourism and business leaders continue calling the stadium one of the biggest sports developments in Las Vegas history.
The project is expected to generate jobs, tourism, entertainment spending, and year-round events once completed.
Because the stadium sits directly on the Strip, many analysts believe it could become one of the most recognizable baseball venues in the country.
The project also further strengthens Las Vegas’ reputation as one of America’s fastest-growing sports cities.
Over the last decade, the city has added the NFL’s Raiders, NHL’s Golden Knights, WNBA’s Aces, Formula One racing, and now Major League Baseball.

Fans Continue Following Weekly Progress
Construction updates have become increasingly popular online as fans regularly share photos and videos tracking the stadium’s development.
Social media creators and local sports pages continue documenting weekly progress from parking garages, nearby resorts, and drone footage around the construction zone.
Many baseball fans believe the stadium could become one of the defining landmarks of the modern Las Vegas Strip once completed.
As construction cranes continue rising above Las Vegas Boulevard, anticipation for Major League Baseball’s future in Southern Nevada keeps growing with every passing month.
