Vegas looks to extend its Stanley Cup Final run as the series shifts back to T-Mobile Arena
LAS VEGAS — The Vegas Golden Knights are one loss away from seeing their Stanley Cup dreams come to an end.
The Carolina Hurricanes defeated the Golden Knights 4-2 in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Thursday night in Raleigh, taking a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series. Carolina now heads to Las Vegas with an opportunity to capture the Stanley Cup, while Vegas must win Game 6 to force a deciding Game 7.
The loss was a frustrating one for the Golden Knights.
Vegas struck first when Pavel Dorofeyev found the back of the net, giving the visitors an early lead and quieting the crowd at Lenovo Center. However, Carolina responded with four consecutive goals and controlled much of the game’s momentum from the second period forward.

Dorofeyev provides offense
Dorofeyev was the bright spot for Vegas.
The forward scored both Golden Knights goals and continued his strong postseason performance. Jack Eichel added an assist and generated several scoring opportunities throughout the night.
Unfortunately for Vegas, the offense could not sustain enough pressure against Carolina goaltender Brandon Bussi. The Hurricanes netminder stopped 23 shots and once again delivered a steady performance in one of the biggest games of his career.
Meanwhile, Carolina captain Jordan Staal continued his remarkable Stanley Cup Final run.
Staal scored for the fifth consecutive game and helped lead the Hurricanes to within one victory of their first Stanley Cup championship since 2006.

Injury concerns emerge
The Golden Knights may have another challenge heading into Game 6.
Forward William Karlsson exited Game 5 with an injury and did not return. His status remains uncertain as the series shifts back to Las Vegas.
Karlsson has been a key contributor throughout the postseason. Therefore, his availability could play a significant role in Vegas’ chances of extending the series.
Head coach John Tortorella remained confident following the loss.
The Golden Knights know they have already overcome adversity during this postseason. In addition, Vegas has consistently responded well after difficult defeats throughout the playoffs.

Game 6 returns to Las Vegas
Now the focus turns to Sunday night at T-Mobile Arena.
Game 6 will be played in front of what is expected to be one of the loudest crowds in franchise history. Golden Knights fans understand the stakes. A victory would force a winner-take-all Game 7 in Raleigh. A loss would end the season and hand the Stanley Cup to Carolina.
The Golden Knights have shown resilience throughout the playoffs.
They battled through tough series, comeback victories and overtime thrillers to reach the Stanley Cup Final. Now they face perhaps their biggest challenge of the season.
Vegas still has elite talent throughout its lineup. Eichel remains one of the NHL’s most dangerous playmakers. Dorofeyev is producing offense at a critical time. The team’s veteran leadership has also been tested before.
Game 6 offers one more opportunity to keep the championship dream alive.
For Golden Knights fans, Sunday night promises to be one of the most important games ever played at T-Mobile Arena.
