Hawaiʻi Visitors and Convention Bureau has launched a new $2 million statewide marketing campaign aimed at restoring summer travel momentum following recent kona low storm coverage that affected visitor confidence and booking activity across the islands.
The initiative, funded by the Hawaiʻi Tourism Authority, is designed to address travel cancellations and encourage potential visitors to continue planning trips to Hawaiʻi during the summer season.
Officials said the campaign will focus on rebuilding traveler confidence while supporting local businesses and tourism-related jobs throughout the state.

Tourism Officials Respond to Booking Slowdown
Although the storms caused only limited and short-term disruptions, tourism leaders said media coverage contributed to a broader perception that conditions across Hawaiʻi remained unstable.
As a result, travel planners in key markets began delaying or reconsidering summer vacations to the islands.
The campaign aims to reverse that trend before travelers commit to other destinations during the peak summer travel season.
“This campaign is designed to drive immediate economic activity in support of local businesses and jobs across Hawaiʻi,” said Aaron J. Salā.

Statewide Strategy Uses Two-Part Approach
The Hawaiʻi Demand Acceleration Marketing Plan operates through two coordinated strategies.
The first focuses on statewide demand acceleration through travel booking channels, media placements, and partnerships with the travel industry.
The second strategy centers on real-time response efforts. This includes social media monitoring and content distribution designed to reinforce current conditions across the islands and address traveler concerns quickly.
Because travel decisions are often made months in advance, officials said the campaign will concentrate heavily on travelers currently planning summer vacations.

Special Offers Program Expanded
In addition to broader advertising efforts, HVCB is expanding its Hawaiʻi Special Offers Program to encourage bookings.
The organization plans to use paid media campaigns and direct digital outreach to promote travel packages and visitor offers.
Broadcast media tours will also be used to reach mainland audiences. Segments highlighting current island conditions and summer travel opportunities will air in key U.S. markets.
Because tourism remains one of Hawaiʻi’s largest economic drivers, officials said maintaining steady visitor activity is critical for businesses statewide.

Community Voices Included in Campaign
The campaign will also feature content produced in partnership with Kilohana by Hawaiian Council.
Short-form videos featuring community members and local perspectives will target both Hawaiʻi residents and visitors already traveling within the islands.
Tourism officials said the goal is to present a more authentic and direct message about conditions in Hawaiʻi following the storms.
“This campaign enables the welcoming messages from the people of Hawaiʻi to come through clearly and genuinely,” said Caroline Anderson.

Tourism Industry Continues Economic Recovery Efforts
Tourism officials across Hawaiʻi continue to monitor visitor activity closely following several years of changing travel patterns tied to weather events, inflation, and global tourism shifts.
Industry analysts note that traveler perception can significantly impact bookings, even when actual disruptions are minimal.
Because Hawaiʻi relies heavily on tourism revenue, state agencies and tourism organizations often respond quickly to protect visitor confidence during major weather coverage.
The current campaign reflects a growing emphasis on rapid-response tourism marketing during periods of uncertainty.
Businesses Encouraged to Participate
Local businesses across the islands are being encouraged to join the campaign through promotional partnerships and special offers.
Officials said participation from hotels, restaurants, attractions, and activity providers will help strengthen the statewide effort.
The campaign also aims to increase visibility for locally owned businesses that depend heavily on seasonal tourism traffic.
Summer Travel Season Remains Critical
Summer is traditionally one of Hawaiʻi’s busiest tourism periods. Travel industry leaders said maintaining strong booking momentum over the next several months will be important for the state’s broader economy.
Officials believe the campaign can help reassure travelers that conditions across the islands remain safe and welcoming.
The effort will continue throughout the summer booking period.
